TORENS/propositions
Experimental small assemblages inspired by the story of the Tower of Babel. These pieces represent crumbling, destructed structures. The anti-constructions are anarchistic visualisations of disintegrated societies where communications have broken down. The maquette-sized works made in a variety of materials are exercises for larger, possible outdoor public, sculptures. The space can be considered as the artist’s 3d-sketchbook.
As a sculptor and exhibition producer my areas of special interests include art as it intersects with science, architecture, history and my own cultural identity. Or to summarize my practice: I am an investigative visual artist who creates exploratory, often site-specific, sculptures and installations. As a ‘concealed curator’ I aim to allow the art works and artists who I collaborate with to speak for themselves.
I work with a range of found objects and industrial materials. Personal experiences are mixed with academic propositions. A central motif is making invisible processes visible. This is the foundation for creative work which examines philosophical and psychological issues of human identity. Who are we? Where have we come from? Where are we going to?
Some of my organic pieces and other experiments resist inclusion into sterile gallery spaces challenging the traditional meaning of sculpture; heavily inspired by Arte Povera. Artists who have stirred me are Eva Hesse, Lee Bontecou, Ruth Asawa, Louise Nevelson and many other women sculptors. The manual manufacturing methods of my sculptures and their included repetitive elements are all parts of my processes.
