I created an interactive sculpture for SPARK - Warwick District Council's one day symposium for creative businesses - titled Inter-Connectivity.
My earlier pieces titled ‘Impedimenta’ inspired this commission titled Inter-Connectivity. They could be perceived as mini sculptures and are part of ongoing investigations of (academic) thoughts and how they translate into the tangible world. The pieces/maquettes are created as pages of a 3D sketchbook in which I envisage how they would work scaled up in the outside world as large sculptures. ‘Impedimenta’ means: the objects that you need for a particular activity.
Inter-Connectivity is a scaled up interactive interpretation of my ’Impedimenta’ sculptures. Now the grass represents a fertile, nourishing ground for organisations/creatives/artists to flourish on/in. It could be symbolic for the main geographical base that Warwick District Council is. The fishing floats are not only beautiful objects in themselves (working with found objects is another strand of my practice) but represent organisations/persons and refer to the proximity of the river Leam and its inspiring presence in the cultural quarter. The floats also look like antennas that are sending messages to each other.
The idea is that delegates when arriving select a fishing float that represents them and a label with their name that can be attached to the float. At some point during the day they will come to the sculpture to place their float and look for other organisations/persons they currently interact with. It will be a work in progress during the day.
